The origin of breast cancer

I am going to visit my friend Kaley tomorrow and speak to the third grade class where she teaches. I'm going to be talking about nursing in general, emergency nursing specifically, and why smoking is bad for you. I've been forewarned about how some of these kids are kind of dense. Here is what one of Kaley's kids told her today:

Third grade boy: Did you know that breast cancer is caused by getting punched in the chest?

Yes, it's going to be an interesting day. Blogging will surely follow.

Your blog posts always make me giggle. As do the comments you leave on mine. You need to add Jamie to your "Friends with Blogs." Also, did you get my Facebook invite?

Actually as asinine as it sounds, there might be some truth to that statement. Trauma to breast tissue certainly doesn't help the situation.

I had an extremely intelligent professor in school who was convince that cervical cancers are caused by trauma as well...

There may be truth in that statement, but I'd bet my own chest that the kid wasn't thinking scholarly.

In fact, when Kaley had a state senator visit her classroom, one of the same kids asked the Senator what he was doing about the rebel forces (the kid loves star wars). They also thought the state fish should be king crabs, since we shouldn't be allowed to eat the state rockfish and less people eat king crabs anyway.

It's going to be a good time!

PS - trauma to the cervix, eh? That seems like an issue to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty investigating!

Hehe, don't think the class didn't come apart at the seams when he said that...

Have a good time! :)
