One day I woke up and realized I'm not a baby nurse anymore. I'm not even a young nurse. I'm a real adult who has now been doing this for years, and I'm definitely expected to know what I'm doing at all times. And that's fucking terrifying.

Whew
Shrtstormtrooper RN, BSN, CEN.
It's only three new letters, but it sure does mean a lot to me! Also, I'm glad that's over. Nobody likes to voluntarily feel as if a Mack truck is repeatedly backing over you...
Congrats! Yeah, I was all ready to go back to school until I got my CEN and then I remember that taking tests makes me want to die. Now will you see a fat cash differential, say, like 25 cents an hour like me? I'm planning on hanging on a yacht with Jay Z now that I have my CEN dough.
Kudos, congratulations too !~! My medical career began at the ER desk in Key West FL when the ER had five beds, one we tried to reserve as the Cardiac bed.
I love the ER and am so grateful and appreciative of what you all do. Happy Nurses Week to nurses everywhere.
Thanks guys! I feel smart now, but I'll probably get progressively dumber for the next 3.5 years until I start studying to renew my cert...
@Hoodnurse: If only I could hang with HOVA now that I have more letters.
The hospital does reimburse me for the test though, which translates to a nice little bonus on my paycheck because I've already forgotten about that time two months ago when I put the test on my credit card. Hooray plastic!
Congrats! I'm starting to prep for my CCRN too now and wonder why I keep doing this to myself. But I like when patients ask "what does CEN mean?" and are visibly more comfortable knowing their nurse has extra certifications!

ReplyDeleteCongrats! I'm starting to work on my CCRN and feel like I am prepping for the NCLEX all over again.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I think people greatly undervalue the power of our extra ABCs... :)

Congrats to you! I'm hoping to be ready to take it sometime within the next year. Did you use any review books or courses that you found helpful??
