Holy shit yall, it's been an entire year since my last post! How has time flown by so quickly??
Things are well on my end - I am happy to report that we're two solid years in and I still love my job. As mentioned in the last post there are always the small annoyances, but overall I absolutely love this position and every shift I work.
One of the things I like the most is that in my job, I am expected to round on our admitted trauma patients. I get to follow them through their entire hospital stay, and be a part of their recovery. Most ER jobs I've worked didn't allow us to chart check or really follow up on people, so this is a very cool aspect of the job that I'm not used to but very much enjoy. There's a real sense of support when you get to be a part of someone's journey.
I mention this to bring up a pediatric patient we had a while back. He was involved in an accident and sustained a devastating brain injury, or so we all thought. I honestly did not think he would make it past the first 24 hours, let alone get discharged to a TBI rehab facility 8 months later and then discharged home a few months after that. I was involved in his care on day one and took him to the ICU two hours later, but nearly a year later I am still invested in their updates and familiar to the family. It's just such a joy to be able to be a part of things like this, and yet another reason I love the job so much.
I do have some other good stories rattling around in the draft pile. One of these days I'll get back around to blogging. But in the meantime, know that I'm doing well and chugging along. I hope you guys are doing well also. Stay safe out there, be kind to people, and try to do good for the world.
