THIS JUST IN:

You're reading the blog of a newly hired, Emergency Department RN! WOO!

I got the job offer and formally accepted it yesterday. Now I've just got to finish the last week of class, 3 finals...and graduation!

I'm terrified. But I'm way beyond excited. I've been working towards this for 2 years now, and the day finally came where a hospital said "yes, we think you'll not kill patients. Would you like to come be stressed out and overwhelmed and pushed to your limit every day? Good, you're hired!"

Woo! (The use of multiple "woo"s in this blog signifies that yes, I am very excited!)

I had ER blinders on all through nursing school as well, which was hard because at least my program was geared almost exclusively towards floor nursing, and so I had to bend everything that was taught me to fit the kind of nurse I actually wanted to be rather than what my instructors wanted me to be. Thank goodness for residency programs!

Congratulations and from someone who hired straight into the ER after school, it is tough but it can be done and oh what a joy to not have to work on the floor!

Love every minute of your residency program and ask everyone questions - even the stupid questions. Then ask them again!
